Motorcycle Instructor Candidates (IC)- We will train
IC Intro Night
An Instructor Candidate intro session is being scheduled in the near future. Please contact our office by email to register or for more information.
About Our Training
We are always seeking qualified motorcycle riders to become instructors of our Motorcycle Skills Course and Traffic Skills Course. Our instructors find their part-time work rewarding in many ways and are happy to give something back to the sport which they enjoy so much.
Any avid motorcyclist who has a sincere desire to teach motorcycle safety can apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Minimum 19 years of age
- Class 6 Motorcycle Licence for 3 years
- Good Driving Record (Driver's Abstract Required)
- No Criminal Code Driving Offences in the past five years
- Criminal Record Check
- Driver Training Instructor Medical Evaluation
- Basic First Aid and CPR Certificates
Three Phases of Training
Our Instructor Candidate (IC) training consists of three phases:
- Phase I: Course Observation, where you observe an entire course (tarmac, theory, and traffic).
- Phase II: Classroom training, 11 3-hour sessions, completed during the evenings and the occasional weekend. This is followed by two full days doing a mock traffic course. This phase prepares you for training adults, and teaches you our curriculum. After completion of this phase, you will receive certification from ICBC as a motorcycle instructor.
- Phase III: Course Practicum, where you teach an actual class under the supervision of an experienced instructor.
About Being an Instructor
As you can see, there is a tremendous time commitment here. Our instructors typically teach 3 or 4 courses a year, with a requirement for them to teach a minimum of 2 each year.
The instructors at the Safety Council are passionately committed to both motorcycling and safety.
