Our Instructor Training Program

We are always seeking qualified motorcycle riders to become instructors of our Motorcycle Novice Skills and Traffic Skills Courses. Our instructors find their part-time work extremely rewarding in many ways and are happy to give something back to the community and sport which they enjoy so much.

Any avid motorcyclist who has a sincere desire to teach motorcycle safety can apply if they meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Class 6 Motorcycle Licence for minimum of 3 years
  • Good Driving Record (Driver's Abstract Required)
  • No Criminal Code Driving Offences in the past five years
  • Criminal Record Check*
  • Driver Training Instructor Medical Evaluation*
  • Current Basic First Aid and CPR certification*

We provide all the training for our Motorcycle Instructor Trainees.

 

* Applicants will be instructed when to complete these requirements. Additional costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

 

Step 1 - Instructor Candidate Information Night

Applicants interested in becoming instructors must attend an Instructor Candidate Information Night. Please contact our lead trainer by email to enquire about attending the next Instructor Candidate Information Night.

 

Step 2 - Application and Selection

After attending the Instructor Candidate Information Night, applicants are required to fill out and submit an Application Form. Qualified applicants will then be contacted for a panel interview with our training staff. If selected, applicants with then receive a classroom training schedule.

 

Step 3 - Training Phases

Our Instructor training consists of three phases:

 

        Phase I - Course Observation (Novice, Theory, and Traffic)

        Phase II - Classroom & Practical Training

        Phase III - Course Practicum

About Being an Instructor

As you can see, there is a tremendous time commitment involved with becoming an instructor. Our instructors typically teach 3 or 4 courses a year, with a current requirement to teach a minimum of 2 courses each year.

The instructors at the Safety Council are passionately committed to both motorcycling and safety.

The Next Steps

If after attending the information night you are still interested in applying, then you will need to take the following steps:

  1. Print out and complete the Vancouver Island Safety Council application form.
  2. Send your completed application form to the Vancouver Island Safety Council.
